Project Athena is funded by multiple three-year grants from the Institute for Museum and Library Services.
Grant #1: "Spinning the Web of our Future"
The initial grant for Project Athena covers the period from September 2002 - August 2005 and involved three deliverables. The central product is the development of a self-sustaining recruitment model and the establishment of a network of relationships to implement it. The second product is a modular and adaptable course to help prepare future faculty. The third deliverables is a toolkit for evaluating efforts to recruit future faculty. Grant #2: "Extending the Web of our Future"
A follow on grant covers the period from December 2003 - December 2006 and involves two deliverables. An important product of the second grant is extending the network of relationships used to recruit future faculty that was implemented with grant #1. The key new deliverable for this follow on grant is a tool for prospective PhD students that will support their decision-making process about academic programs and career activities.
